¡Ole! Flamenco exhibition Feb-May, 2024, Instituto Cervantes Manchester. Captivating photography exhibition by the artist Rina Srabonian, (Ռինա Սրապոնեան), captured in Andalusia and beyond. Through her lens, Srabonian beautifully portrays the strength, movement, and passion that flamenco embodies within the community. A visual journey showcasing renowned contemporary flamenco artists such as Paula Comitre, Manuel Liñán, and Diego del Morao, alongside revered figures representing traditional flamenco, including Tía Juana la del Pipa, Nano de Jerez, La Macanita, Miguel Salado and Romerito de Jerez. The opening night at the Instituto Cervantes Manchester, was a success, with an interesting talk given by the artist Rina Srabonian followed with music by the Andalucian flamenco guitarist Santiago Moreno . Photography has evolved from a long-standing passion into my main creative focus, deeply influenced by my love of the arts and music. My work is driven by a fascination with cultural diversity, human emotion, rhythm, and colour, seeking to capture universal connections. Music has always been central to my life, particularly jazz and flamenco, with a personal focus on rhythm and percussion. I have studied Nigerian percussion with Tafa Onigbanjo and Tommy Odueso, and Afro-Cuban percussion with La Timbala , which led to a study trip to Cuba. In Cuba, I experienced music with a raw emotional power and intensity unlike anything I had experienced before. This, fundamentally shaped my photography—how I sense rhythm, when I react, and how I capture the energy and emotion of performers in the moment. Backgr ound Born in the Middle East from an Armenian background (Ռինա Սրապոնեան ). I studied Interior Design at Manchester Metropolitan University and began my career as an Interior Designer at Airports UK. I then expanded my experience as a theatre workshop artist and worked at both, Manchester Library and Wythenshawe Forum theatres. As the digital landscape evolved, I expanded my skills by studying various digital software, specialising in 2D and 3D design. This experience has allowed me to work in various areas of design such as: Brand & Identity, event publications, exhibition design, web and print design. My travels often include music festivals mainly flamenco and jazz, I also love exploring the traditional music in different places. Life drawing is an area I picked up on my degree course and have been attending classes ever since. I am currently studying flamenco singing (cante) in Jerez de la Frontera with attention to the rhythm (compás). La fotografía ha pasado de ser una pasión de toda la vida a convertirse en mi principal vía de expresión creativa, profundamente influida por mi amor por las artes y la música. Mi trabajo está impulsado por la fascinación por la diversidad cultural, las emociones humanas, el ritmo y el color, y busca capturar conexiones universales. La música siempre ha ocupado un lugar central en mi vida, sobre todo el jazz y el flamenco, con un interés especial por el ritmo y la percusión. Antecedentes Nací en Oriente Medio y tengo ascendencia armenia ( Ռինա Սրապոնեան ) . Estudié Diseño de Interiores en la Universidad Metropolitana de Mánchester y empecé mi carrera como diseñadora de interiores en Airports UK. Posteriormente, amplié mi experiencia como artista en talleres de teatro y trabajé tanto en la Biblioteca de Mánchester como en los teatros Wythenshawe Forum teatros. A medida que el panorama digital iba evolucionando, amplié mis conocimientos formándome en diversos programas informáticos, especializándome en diseño en 2D y 3D. Esta experiencia me ha permitido trabajar en diversas áreas del diseño, tales como: imagen de marca e identidad corporativa, publicaciones para eventos, diseño de exposiciones, diseño web y diseño gráfico. El dibujo del natural es una disciplina que descubrí durante mis estudios universitarios y desde entonces he seguido asistiendo a clases. Actualmente estoy estudiando cante flamenco en Jerez de la Frontera, prestando especial atención al compás.
